Drontal Tablet for Cat
Drontal Tablet for Cats is a broad-spectrum deworming medicine formulated to eliminate common intestinal parasites in cats, including roundworms, hookworms, and tapeworms. It’s widely used for both treatment and routine prevention, especially for outdoor cats, multi-pet households, or cats with recurring worm exposure (often through fleas, hunting, or contaminated environments).
What Drontal Treats
Drontal is commonly used for:
- Roundworms (Toxocara cati, Toxascaris leonina)
- Hookworms (Ancylostoma tubaeforme, A. braziliense)
- Tapeworms (Dipylidium caninum, Taenia spp.)
Note: Tapeworm reinfection is very common if flea control is not done alongside deworming.
Active Ingredients & How They Work
Praziquantel
Targets tapeworms by damaging the parasite’s outer surface and interfering with its ability to survive in the intestines, allowing it to be broken down and eliminated.
Pyrantel Pamoate
Targets roundworms and hookworms by causing paralysis of the worms so they detach from the intestinal wall and pass out naturally.
This combination makes Drontal an all-in-one dewormer for multiple worm types.
When to Use Drontal
Use Drontal when:
- Your cat shows symptoms of worms (vomiting, diarrhea, weight loss, bloated belly)
- Worm segments are seen near the anus or in stool (common with tapeworms)
- Your cat has flea exposure (tapeworm risk)
- You want routine prevention as advised by your vet
